Must Have Module #1 - Video

From time to time I'll be discussing "must-have modules", which are part of the bread and butter of most effective lenses. There are always exceptions to the rule, so don't take it and make it unilateral. However, in most cases, the "must-haves" are just that; don't get caught without them.

The first among the must-have modules is the video module. Now that Squidoo is no linger limiting us to just using YouTube videos, the possibilities are even GREATER! Think about it: if video wasn't extremely important to the effectiveness of a lens, why would Squidoo expand the choices? Why not just leave the YouTube module alone and let the chips fall where they may? Why exactly is video important to the success of your lenses?

The reason why is that video modules convert lens visitors into buyers!

Squidoo is all about the power of recommendation, so what better way to back up your own expressions than with supporting views or information on video? Reinforce your written copy with auditory and visual stimulation; it really goes a long way in making an impression upon the reader. Think about how much more impressed you are by websites that provide video clips on their home page. Think about how video may increase the effectiveness of a lens that is pertaining to performing arts or artists, allowing you to show the reader exactly what you're talking about. Consider a how-to lens that explains what to do in the copy and then offers a how-to video series adjacent to the written instructions.

Video makes your lenses exponentially more effective!

So, use video whenever you can. Don't be shy; if you have a lens topic you want to explore, no matter how obscure, go to YouTube and see if there are any videos there related to your topic. You'll be surprised at just how much is out there, waiting to be leveraged. Use these free resources to your advantage, and pick up the money that's being left on the table by people who just don't get it yet.

Here's to us in 2009,
